Hmmm

So, I intend to ramble about something that doesnt really matter...... just to warn you...

So, I have daughters..... and my sister and i were little girls once... Long ago..lol.... As little girls, ( and i still do now) we were dressed in Dresses for out-of-the ordinary things; Birthday partys, recitals, visiting Nana, school concerts. Picture Day ect. So, as a mom, I dress my girls in dresses for out-of-the-ordinary things. But, i have noticed, not many people do! The annual class picture no longer has a row of girls in the front in nice dresses with their ankles crossed... kids show up to birthday parties in jeans and a tee with a rustled pony tail.... I dont know why...BUT, I have noticed a small change in this.... Mishy went to a birthday party this weekend...it was a pool party... but i had her put a pretty floral sheath dress on... and to my surprise, when i dropped her off at the house, three little girls in floral print dresses ran to the car to greet her!! I was looking at one friends pix on Facebook of her daughters kindergarten grad, and the lil girls were in cute summer dresses. An old highschool chum of mine posts lots of pix of his three daughters, and they are mostly in lovely little dresses.

Im not completely Old Fashioned.... I like the look of jeans and bright cotton tees, but I think little girls should wear dresses for out-of-the-ordinary events. As much as i love Road to Avonlea and Anne of Green Gables, I dont think we should go back to wearing dresses full time, with pinafores and bloomers.... But, in an age where there are millions of pix of our kids it nice to be able to differenciate the importance of events when looking at these pix.... There is also the fact that teaching your child young that for special things we take care to dress nice! Being trained up in this way means that it is automatic for me to carefully select my attire for things... I gauge the formality of the event, and choose an appropriate outfit, and most times, it is a skirt or dress.

Im not some socialite, im not rich, i dont have expensive clothing, and i know full well that you can purchase a nice outfit for the same price as bumming around clothes at second hand shops, and sometimes even Walmart, as you can get black slacks for the same price as jeans here... so i dont see an excuse for adults to show up to a Funeral, court, their kids graduation, church or a wedding in Blue jeans and a t-shirt. To me, dressing nice shows that you care about the event, and im sorry, but you cant help but feel good dressed up! Thats why brides wear gowns and not overalls!

The only concession i make is for my mom.... she will dress up for most things, even tho she HATES dresses and dispises pantyhose; but she works the fitted black pant suit nicely... she is the one who taught me pride in appearance, but she does refuse to dress up for court... She hasnt been in trouble..dont think that.... she is a very upstanding citizen... But she doesnt respect the judicial system, with good reason. She was raped as a child and recieved no justice, my father was never charged for beating the hell out of her time and time again, he only recieved probation for sexually assaulting me, and the first time he did get nailed for DUI, he only lost his licence for a year, and the second time, where he killed a man in a Hit and Run while driving drunk; he only recieved 3 years in jail, and watched my ex only be sentenced to serving the weekends of 2 monthes for beating the crap outta me while i was pregnant with Mish... So, yeah, she doesnt respect the courts and therefore refuses to dress up.

Like i said, i was gonna ramble....

thats all i have to write at the moment......

Ciao
